PROCOPE Medicals validates the 1st phase of anatomical compatibility evaluation of its medical device
Nantes, France, October 19, 2022 – PROCOPE Medicals, designer of a fully implantable cardiac prosthesis, has carried out the first phase of physical implantations of its artificial heart device.
The aim of the physical implantations is to validate the design (shape) and size (volume) of the heart prosthesis, available in 2 volumes, so that it is suitable for the greatest number of patients, whatever the size and volume of the thorax that will house the device. This step builds on and reinforces the findings of a virtual implant study on 3D anatomical models.
The data obtained from this stage will enable us to take an important step forward in the development of our device.
Procope Medicals also focused on an optimized design to simplify the surgical implantation procedure, with a secure locking interface between the prosthesis and the atria and arteries (aorta and pulmonary artery). The interface with the patient’s atria (upper heart chambers) provides the surgeon with an unobstructed space to intervene during the implantation
and to ensure optimal alignment of the prosthesis. Once this interface has been sutured to the atria, the prosthesis can be easily attached. The device has been tested and validated by the surgical team.
Anatomical validation tests were successfully carried out in the Anatomy Laboratory of the University of Nantes, thanks to the team of thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons at Nantes University Hospital, who have been collaborating on the project since Procope Medicals was founded.
